Private Storage Network key to export efficiencies

Representatives from across the Riordan Grains private storage network gathered in Geelong in September to prepare for the coming harvest.  The group were given an update on local and international grain and fertiliser markets, receival and testing procedures, and Riordan Fuels operations.

Guest speaker, Future Fuels Manager, Vanessa Lenihan from Viva Energy provided great insight into the challenging but exciting road ahead to satisfy Australia’s future fuel needs and achieve the government’s decarbonisation targets.

Following this informative session, a tour of the Port of Geelong included the newly acquired shed on Central Quay North, which will provide much needed support to our export program which is expected to exceed 1mmt in 2024/25.

A perimeter view of Viva Energy’s Geelong Refinery demonstrated the enormous scale of their operations and investment in infrastructure that is underway including three massive 30ML diesel storage tanks and the construction of Australia’s first Hydrogen refueling station.

Finally, a guided tour of the Riordan grain and fertilizer storage facility at Lara that has consistently grown over the last 10 years to now include close to 60,000 square meters of undercover shed space that manages more than 1.5mmt per year of imported fertiliser, and grains destined for export.
